In that magical moment when two souls decide to become one in mind, body, and soul, a wedding is the best way to mark this joyous occasion. At this point, most of the pressure falls on the bride to look her very best. Most brides feel the need to walk down the aisle in their handmade wedding gowns. If you’re one of them, here are a few JJ’s House practical tips to help you towards achieving your ultimate goal.

  1. Style

If you’re not decided on this just yet, get a few pointers from a wedding gown shop near you. Try out one or two and pay attention to the style of the one that fits you perfectly. Your gown’s design should never hinder you from moving around freely. Other features to pay attention to with regards to style are: –

  1. a) The neckline

Did you know that there are over sixty front and back necklines? It is therefore up to you to do thorough research on the different kinds of necklines and pick out the one that goes hand in hand with your design.

  1. b) The waistline

The waistline is the most critical part of any gown. Make sure your waistline complements your body shape so that you can accentuate the beauty of the dress.

  1. c) The sleeves

Your gown’s sleeves should neither be too loose or too tight. They could either be see-through or plain white, according to your preference. Look up the 45+  different kind of sleeves and incorporate the ideal design that works for you.

  1. Fabric

The overall beauty of your gown rests on your choice of fabric. After settling for your ideal style, focus on the fabric that will get the job done. Nowadays, there are specific stores that exclusively stock up bridal fabrics. Here is a list of the most-used fabrics that you may fancy trying out:

  • Crinoline/net
  • Cotton batiste
  • Beaded/Sequined
  • Lace
  • Polyester
  • Silk – Most preferably Chinese silk, due to its extra softness and inexpensiveness.

The color of the fabric you choose matters a lot. Though the most used color is white, you may stand out by using varying color combinations – just make sure not to overdo it.

  1. Sewing Technique

When it comes to bridal sewing, couture sewing is the commonly used technique. When done correctly, this technique can make it almost impossible to notice the stitching. For the inside and out, use either Hong Kong or French seams when using sheer fabrics.

To ensure that the fitting is just right, add zippers on the sides. This will make the gown’s opening almost invisible. If you feel comfortable using buttons, use small button loops and handmade buttons due to their attractive nature.

  1. Accessories

Basically, these are the gown’s special effects. The head covering could either be a partial veil or a full veil. For the finishing, you can decide to lace up a colorful and attractive bow to your gown. To the edges of the dress, you could incorporate satin ribbons, pearls, beads, sequins and a couple of other eye-catching ornamentations.
